Dirty premises and waste not removed: problem resolved at Institut technique Saint-Joseph thanks to citizen monitoring
At Institut technique Saint-Joseph (Lukunga, Kinshasa), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: dirty premises and waste not removed. Within 102 days and through « Meeting with the school management », the school fixed the problem; the monitors checked the fix on site.
Institut technique Saint-Joseph welcomes its pupils every day in Lukunga (Kinshasa). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.
The problem
On 16 December 2025, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Institut technique Saint-Joseph: dirty premises and waste not removed.
Water and decent toilets determine pupils’ health and whether girls come to school.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:
- Meeting with the school management
The result
The fix was recorded on 28 March 2026, 102 days after the report.
During their visit on 11 October 2026, the monitors checked the fix on site: the problem moved to « Verified » on EduCheck.
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
