What is an Integrity Club?
An Integrity Club is a voluntary, inclusive group of students aged 14 to 19, supported by a focal teacher. Members learn what integrity, accountability and equality mean, discover their right to a quality education, and take action by monitoring the quality of their school.
Five objectives
- Raise awareness of integrity values and students’ rights.
- Build trust between students, teachers, school management and parents.
- Strengthen accountability of those who deliver education services.
- Give students a role in the life and improvement of their school.
- Improve education: infrastructure, teacher attendance, materials, governance.
Ingredients of a club that works
- Rights and standards everyone knows: what the school must provide.
- Monitoring led by students, with parents and teachers.
- Willingness of school management and authorities to cooperate.
- A regular dialogue to discuss problems and solutions.
- Public display of problems… and solutions.
Roles in the club
President, secretary, treasurer, communications officer and liaison officers share the work; the focal teacher facilitates without leading.
The monitoring questionnaire
At each visit, monitors answer the same 19 questions on buildings, water and toilets, safety, lessons, teachers, materials, integrity and complaint mechanisms. Every red answer becomes a problem followed on EduCheck until it is verified.
Keeping the club going
Keep good relations with the school management, organise refresher training, find modest ways to operate, and celebrate successes.
