Workers not properly paid: problem fixed at Institut technique Le Progrès thanks to citizen monitoring
At Institut technique Le Progrès (Uvira, Sud-Kivu), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: workers not properly paid. Within 32 days and through « Meeting with the school management », the project fixed the problem.
The « Réhabilitation d’un bâtiment scolaire » project is meant to improve Institut technique Le Progrès (Uvira, Sud-Kivu). Student monitors of the school’s Integrity Club, trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC), follow the works with the EduCheck questionnaire to check that what was promised is delivered.
The problem
On 12 January 2026, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Institut technique Le Progrès: workers not properly paid.
Workers paid properly and on time mean a site that moves forward and work done well.
The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the project management committee and the contractor.
The dialogue
The monitors opened a dialogue with the project management committee and the contractor:
- Meeting with the school management
The result
The fix was recorded on 13 February 2026, 32 days after the report.
The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».
This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
Your school can change too
Students, parents and teachers trained by CERC monitor their school and talk with those in charge until problems are fixed.
