Illustration : eau et toilettes

At Institut Kiwanja (Ibanda, Bukavu, Sud-Kivu), the Integrity Club reported on EduCheck: lack of clean water. Within 90 days and through « Funding from an external partner », the school fixed the problem.

Institut Kiwanja welcomes its pupils every day in Ibanda (Sud-Kivu). Like other schools followed by EduCheck, it has an Integrity Club: student monitors trained by the Anti-Corruption Research Centre (CERC) to observe their school with a shared questionnaire, report problems on EduCheck and talk with those in charge until they are solved.

The problem

On 13 February 2026, the Integrity Club reported the following problem at Institut Kiwanja: lack of clean water.

Water and decent toilets determine pupils’ health and whether girls come to school.

The problem was published on the school’s page and sent to the school management.

The dialogue

The monitors opened a dialogue with the school management:

  • Funding from an external partner

The result

The fix was recorded on 14 May 2026, 90 days after the report.

The monitors will check the fix during their next visit; the problem will then move to « Verified ».

This success shows what citizen monitoring makes possible: a problem made visible, a dialogue with the right people and a verified solution, for the benefit of pupils.
